After a few weeks of early season grazing, today we moved the flock from the fields at 1206. We walked them through the East meadow, crossed Trumbull Hill road, and led them into paddocks by Studio Hill's red barn.
For the next 4 weeks the flock's daily moves will stay near the barns and farm center. During lambing season, we are zipping back and forth between the flock and barn throughout the day, so it helps to have them close by and easily accessible. The proximity to human activity also makes the sounds and smells of new lambs, a little less appealing to any potential predators nearby.
With lambs due any day, the ewes are looking big and a bit wobbly. Miranda, who was leading the flock, made sure to walk them slowly, so they wouldn't get too tired or stressed from the move. We used the new Lambulance to block the road for them during the crossing.
The flock is right in the center of the farm again, and we are officially on lamb watch!
