April, 29, 2025 - The flock left the winter paddocks about two weeks ago, and has been making its way across Studio Hill's East Meadow. Today, the sheep crossed over onto Horned Lark's 1206 property and is happily munching on the ever-more-voluminous green grass. Prior to Studio Hill's purchase of the property in 2021, the area they're now grazing was managed only with annual brush hogging to prevent trees and shrubs from becoming established. We're entering the fifth season of sheep activity, and we're seeing a remarkable change in what's growing here now. When we started, there was there was thinly distributed corse grass, mixed with brambles, and other woody pasture weeds. Now, we're seeing lush, leafy grasses taking the lead, and with it, a host of new wildlife joining the mix, as the soil biology becomes reactivated and more nurturing to the community of creatures above and below ground.
Other Updates
Owen and Leah from Abound Design came for a site visit and were there to see the sheep move to fresh grass. It was a great day to walk the property and get a feel for the project. Later on, the Lambu-lance was delivered! This will be such a help in shuttling between the flock and barn, and also crucial for the trail work that will help connect the different parts of the Horned Lark land base.
The ewes are looking VERY PREGNANT and we are a few days from the official start of lambing season. But we're always ready for any early arrivals, should anyone feel inspired to be born today...
